I mean, does it really even need to be explained? Besides dictatorship, let countries choose their own form of government.

thats a good idea, because the whole world isnt democratic. thats what starts some wars and ends some
396 days agoby Polkadot
Before they could implement alternate forms of government, they'd need to implement the ability to start a resistance war in your own capital to overthrow the existing government.
396 days agoby nicholas2000
Indeed Polkadot.

I would like to see resistance wars to overthrow the current government, but also to free a region from its original owner.

Government forms I would like to see:
-monarchy
-dictatorship
-oligarchy
possibly more...
396 days agoby Polkadot
Nicholas2000, I'd fully support the ability to free a region from it's original owner. However, t here would be two sides to it.

1) Creating a new autonomous nation: That would be a difficult mechanic, as it would allow players to create their own countries. ie. Basque Country revolts to become independent.

2) Allowing regions to defect to the enemy. This mechanic would be a lot simpler to implement. ie. Californians revolt and join Mexico.

I'd like both options, but the 2nd option would be the most feasible.
396 days agoby Supabeasty #2
then how would somebody be a dictator or king?
396 days agoby Roflolmao
Dictatorship should have to take a week or two to make however and cost gold from the president's pocket(since its likely not supported by the country as a whole), otherwise a president can be elected, and instantly rule. During that time(no impeachments allowed), the possible dictator would have to gain supporters to fight against any rebellions.

Not sure what they would do if it goes into another election though, could kinda mess things up. Perhaps, it would simply be overriden on the election day, so a president would have to implement it early.
396 days agoby nicholas2000
1) It would be difficult, but it would make the game far more interesting. It would make nations need to focus on keeping their people happy.

2)I like that idea.

they could make it so that when you start a resistance war, you have 3 options:
1-regular resistance
2-change government
3-new country/defect (the starter would choose upon compleation)

For option 2, it should be 100 Gold+.25 Gold for ever citizen
For option 3, it should be 200 Gold+.25 per citizen in that region.
That would make it far more difficult.

@Supabeasty#2, I would assume that either the person who led the revolt, or Congress votes on it.
396 days agoby Roflolmao
Monarchy, should possibly be voted in by the public, with lots of control, just a temporary dictator basically. Useful in times of war.
396 days agoby Supabeasty #2
i see what you mean then but that would mean a lot of smaller individual modules to let that.
396 days agoby Roflolmao
For the new country, it could cause far too many problems in my opinion, provided its only one region. Now if it was with multiple regions, like a civil war type thing, it would be better. If it was only one region, then having to create parties, vote in pres, congress, party pres, getting gold, citizens.. all that, would be much too complex.
396 days agoby Jazar
Yes, voted hard! Just simple changes would make every country a lot different. The current system doesn't mirror the real world, just a couple of countries.

While implementing dictatorship would be hard, more simple things include a monarchy, parliamentary democracy, etcetera. Including monarchs, ministers, prime ministers, possible a house of lords (or like in the Netherlands, a "First" and "Second Chamber").

Variety = thumbs up.
396 days agoby Kitchen.Sink
Not voted. This suggestion is too vague.
396 days agoby Polkadot
one possibility could be to allow the president to disable/enable Congress and/or elections.

Again, with this, there would have to be an option to start a RW to overthrow the Government.

This would allow the President to essentially declare Martial Law in the time of Crisis, if he feels that rifts in Congress are making things worse than better. Or, in all reality, he could just declare Martial Law for the lulz and become supreme ruler.

Just like the other options, this would not work without the ability to overthrow your own government.

Who knows, maybe an awesome dictator/king could step up and do a great job, gaining support the support of the masses.
396 days agoby Teh User
Parliamentary system, with prime minister. Prime Minister should be leader of the party with most seats, or if two parties 'support' each other, they could get the prime minister.

Then an elected president (or chosen monarch by the prime minister) can just be ceremonial
396 days agoby Teh User
I don't like the fact we have to be a republic with a presidential system Nb97, monarchies in real life can be more democratic than republics.

Britain invented the parliamentary system and its name has the word Kingdom in it, so we should have a King and a Prime Minister. The Prime Minister (party president of the largest party in Parliament as voted for by the public) runs the country on a day to day basis. If two parties ally so they have more seats than the largest party the party president of the largest party in that coalition becomes prime minister. Another feature should be referendums. Citizens could vote to increase the number of seats in a parliament etc to a maximum proportion of a countries population (I.E each region could have between 1 and 10 MPs).

The parliament votes on the PM's monarch suggestion for the month. The King is basically ceremonial but the public be able to choose a ceremonial President if you prefer to be a republic like the German system.

I mean come on, hardly anywhere outside the Americas uses a President-Congress system, why did eRepublik choose it when it's based in a parliamentary country (Romania).
396 days agoby Majester
You could go for a more flexible system, where countries can define their own governments.

It only requires that the various tiers of government have powers defined as switches that can be toggled via the voting system (no different from standard user rights systems).
Thus x-Tier (Immigrant, Citizen, Congress, Cabinet, President) has the option to:
- exist
- propose a law
- pass a law
- vote, but not pass, a law (opinion poll power)
- term-length until re-elected by Tier-x.
- elects other-tiers (eg Citizen elects Congress, President elects President, Congress elects President)
- officially nominates other tiers (open, Citizen, Party)
- can vote on which issues (government powers, taxes, trade-embargoes, war)
- number of presidents
- number of congressmen per region
- reward for being elected (Gold from treasury)
- salary (Currency from treasury)
- number of cabinet ministers (super-congressmen with protfolios or different power - adds a potential 4th-tier to governement, again toggle-able)

An open system like this will allow the user base to create a wide variety of government forms without having to strictly define government types.

And if it all goes horribly wrong, the popular-revolt/change government war can let people start from scratch.
396 days agoby Chris Dakteer
I'd like to see the possibility of hostile internal take-overs. For example, if a group of citizens of a specific country were unhappy with the way their government were being run, it should be conceivable that a military junta, or similar group, could attempt to seize power. It strikes me that this would empower the general citizens, who often have little impact on how things are run once Congress is elected. By the same token, I agree with the ideas to empower the executives. Give them a veto power on certain aspects of the Congressional activity.
396 days agoby FoxtrotZero
Another important thing, as mentioned, would be to take land from other countries, or to even start new countries. The New World should not be limited to its RL counterpart.
396 days agoby banamoat
don't we already have oligarchy's?
396 days agoby Edward L. Dreikorn IV
I would think it too easy for an idiot with money to go into a country and f it up so to speak with a dictatorship. But other than that the change in government types and coups would be a really good change for depth in game play and gives the two clickers an easier reason to get into the world. But the idea of new countries would be very difficult to do along with the fact that everyones will try and make new counties and the world will turn to chaos with new attempts every hour on the hour.

Also, I think We should consider making Dualistic Executive Power systems, meaning President and Prime Minister. Perhaps a "Constitution" module, which would contain a few options for distribution of power, duties of Congress, President, perhaps addition of the Prime Minister. It's really making a interactive bill system that would be good. E.g. Droplists of Positions that Congress can appoint (according to the constitution) to, and who to appoint to it.

Make this more interactive. And add a referendum module, to activate citizens politically. Just a country wide poll at the discretion of Congress and the President.

And also of course 'coup the etats, separation and stuff like that.

this will be useless. There is no need for this. A country is going to be run however it's going to be run. the type of government structure doesn't matter.
Simply allow congress to tweak constitution with 66% majority. Constitution would contains statements like these:
- presidential term duration
- congress term duration
- what abilities do president have
* allow for turning off presidency alltogheter
* allow to let president make some laws w/o approval from congress
- what abilities do congress have
* allow/disallow congress to impeach president

If this is done; the ability for the population to overturn or change this would be necessary so that exploits where a few people completely block out power from everyone else doesn't happen

I'd disagree with the costs because it would prohibit ur run-of-the-mill worker being able to contribute meaningfully(other than saving for AGES). otherwise I like the idea; having a socialist revolution in somewhere like Texas would be hilarious and it will generally mean that politicans would have to really pay if they did something that p****d the electorate off, not just once a month at the ballot box.

You guys have to realize how hard it is to do all this stuff. Everybody really needs to lower their standards so the admins will be more happy to implement stuff.

Believe it or not, Communism's, and monarchy's (maybe) would be too hard to implement. Perhaps for now just ask them to implement a dictatorship and totalitarianism.

Dictatorship- do I really need to explain this? A single person takes ABSOLUTE power.

Totalitarianism- senate/president vote to keep themselves in power perm. unless the public rebels. Basically making themselves the ruling social elite. This way, political parties would seize to exist and the public could no longer vote for the president/congress.

Monarchs- basically a simple version of monarchical government could be: monarchs, unlike dictators must be voted in by the people, and this would effectively destroy the congress. A monarch has the absolute power of both a president and congress, yet every 2 MONTHS, the population could chose to change to a "constitutional monarch" in which the monarch has to handpick a small parliament. A monarch could choose to end their rule 1 month earlier and hand over the reign's to a "heir" of their choice, thus avoiding a public election. This could be a way Monarchs sort of have a royal family.
-if a constitutional monarchy is elected, they would be similar to a totalitarianism, yet parliament elections would be held every month.

the game is called eREPUBLIK! not eMonarchy...the point is to make a combined effort to make something, so that even the strongest tank can't beat 20 people that are average because they are in congress or they have more funds etc. the point is to make online friends and to coordinate with them in order to achieve both personal and group interests :) the idea is RL, but this is just a game...

a dictatorship usually has to have a military support so... it should be like conquering a region... those in support would fight to conquer those opposed would have to fight the wall down. And you shouldn't be required to be a leader of any sort at the time... only have enough gold to start the PTO.
370 days agoby Jellena85
I support the idea of a monarchy:

The change of government would come after being approved by 2/3 in a referendum that is previously proposed by the congress ,and the level of control that a monarch ( king/queen , emperor/empress , prince/princess) has shouldn't be strictly defined by the game but instead defined in the congress proposal. In that way, we could have various forms od monarchies ... autoritarian , parlamentary, symbolic or something between.
370 days agoby Jellena85
@Synario

Monarchy doesn't have to be totalitarian. It is a myth placed by the US media. UK and Denmark are monarchies and they are not totalitarian.

I have an idea...read

When are president elections. player Apolf become president. He choose democracy, or autocratic government. When he shut down elections, he must have support. So he organize police in country administration. Like army unit but in police they get money as a second job. So when people don't want this president any more or he is so bad, they organize revolutionary movement like organization, but group. They can start a riot by paying 10 gold for 5 men, 20 for 30 for 15 and so... When they start a riot there is war like police and revolutionary movement. So if movement win, president is down and there are immediate elections. If police win, members of revolutionary movement loose gold from paying the revolution. I think this would be good idea.
